About United Basketball
Testimonials
“United AAU gave me the opportunity to expand my basketball skills and play against tough competition. United made my dream of college basketball a reality.”
Hannah Ally
(United Basketball Alumni and
Centenary College Guard)
“United Basketball helped me tremendously with the development of my game and gave me the opportunity to attend WPU to play basketball. Each spring and summer I was able to attend exposure events that put me in front of hundreds of college coaches. United Basketball staff go the extra mile, contacting the coaches of the schools I was interested in and making sure they got to my games, while also mentoring me on my decision to go to WPU. I wouldn't be at WPU today if it wasn't for this program.”
Allyson Scerbo
(United Basketball Alumni and
William Patterson University Guard)
“It has truly been a great experience for our daughter to be involved with United Basketball. She has made many new friends, worked with wonderful coaches along the way, and improved her game to a new level. She enjoys playing with girls from many different communities and traveling to new cities and towns. We are all very proud to be a part of the Hunterdon United Family.”
Grace and Tom Brennan
(United Basketball Parents)
Mission
United Basketball has two primary goals: Development and Exposure. This program focuses on fundamental skill development and player improvement throughout each season. Players have the opportunity to play on very competitive teams that participate in high level, exposure-based tournaments.

About
United Basketball is a high-level spring and summer basketball program based out of the Hunterdon County, NJ.  United Basketball is for the serious and competitive basketball player that wants to improve his or her game in every aspect. We believe that a player’s experience with our program begins with the coach and the surrounding support staff. United boasts a highly qualified and experienced staff of coaches and trainers that have competed and coached at high school and collegiate levels.

History
United Basketball is a non-profit 501C3 organization that was originally founded in 1993 and operated as the Hunterdon Hoosiers. Dr Edward Johnson founded Hunterdon Hoosiers AAU, a program exclusively for girls in Hunterdon County and the surrounding areas. By the year 2000, the Hunterdon Hoosiers had won 5 state championships and represented New Jersey at the National Tournament in both Cocoa Beach, Florida and Amarillo, Texas, placing 17th in the nation in 1995. In 2006, current Hoosier president John Clark worked with Katie Terhune and Megan Haughey to unite other local programs in the county. In the spring of 2007, the programs joined and expanded to add a male side to the AAU program. As of late 2007, United Basketball was created.

United Basketball FAQs
Playing Time
Every player will play in every game. Playing time however will not be equal. The goal of tournaments is to compete in each game in which teams play. Exceptions – College Showcase Tournaments, State Tournament, Regional Tournament, etc. At these tournaments coaches play to win, therefore playing time is not equal, regardless of the amount of money spent on attending the tournament.

Practice
It is extremely important for player to commit to attending all practices. United Basketball believes that player development occurs in practice. A player who misses practices may incur penalties in playing time at the following game.

Commitment
It is important for players to demonstrate commitment to the team that they are apart of. When commitment lacks from one individual on a team, the entire team suffers, which is unfair. If you are placed on a team you are expected to attend all practices and games. If a conflict arises, communication with the coach is crucial.

Other Sports - United Basketball will work with athletes who play another sport to determine if it is possible for the player to be apart of the United Basketball program. This will be determined on an individual basis with the player, player’s family and coach.

Parent Behavior
United Basketball believes that our highly qualified coaches create the great experience for your son/daughter. United Basketball therefore asks parents to abide by a series of beliefs listed below.
1. Let the coach do the coaching. Parents are not to coach from the sidelines during the game.

2. Our development structure believes that each player should be gaining feedback from only one person throughout practice and games, and that is the coach.

3. All parents should respect their coach and display sportsmanship at all tournaments, scrimmages, and practices.

4. Parents should remember that United Basketball looks to create a positive learning environment for your son/daughter and that everyone involved in this process, including parents and coaches need to be positive role models.
Tryout Fee
The tryout fee that is not returned is used to help defray tryout costs (facility rental fees). It would be unfair for just those families who make a team to pay for all those that tryout. Some families 'shop' at various programs to determine which is best for their child and have a responsibility to share in those costs. The financial commitment tends to make the tryout more important.
